SPIRO has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Huy Chieu as Chief Development Officer, as the electric mobility company expands its engineering, product development and manufacturing capabilities across Africa.
Chieu brings nearly 3 decades of global experience in the automotive and electric vehicle sectors. His career spans North America, China, India, Southeast Asia and Europe, with experience at major automotive and mobility companies including General Motors, VinFast and Hero MotoCorp.
In his new role, Chieu will oversee SPIRO’s end-to-end product development and industrial scale-up initiatives. His responsibilities will include strengthening engineering capabilities and supporting the expansion of the company’s manufacturing footprint as it grows its electric mobility ecosystem across African markets.
The appointment comes as SPIRO continues to expand its operations. The company currently has more than 120,000 electric motorcycles on the road and over 2,500 battery swap stations.
Chieu’s experience across automotive engineering, EV development, global operations and industrial scale-up is expected to support SPIRO’s efforts to develop scalable products and manufacturing capabilities suited to mobility needs across Africa.
He holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. His combination of engineering and business expertise adds to his experience in automotive development, commercialisation and global mobility.
