India adds 5.79 million wireless users as telecom base grows in June

India added 5.79 million wireless users during June, taking the total wireless subscriber base, including mobile and fixed wireless access (FWA) connections, to 1,300.25 million. Of this, 749.39 million subscribers were in urban areas and 550.86 million were in rural areas.

Bharti Airtel recorded the highest subscriber additions during the month, adding 2.99 million mobile users. Reliance Jio followed with 2.15 million new subscribers. Vodafone Idea added 1,63,757 users, while BSNL gained 94,006 mobile subscribers.

MTNL was the only operator to report a decline, losing 11,284 mobile subscribers in June.

The total telephone subscriber base increased from 1,343 million in May to 1,348 million in June. This included 1,300 million wireless users and 47.82 million wireline subscribers.

Broadband base crosses 1,087 million

India’s broadband subscriber base also continued to rise, reaching 1,087.50 million at the end of June 2026. The segment recorded monthly growth of 0.68%.

Reliance Jio remained the leading broadband provider with 532.21 million subscribers. Bharti Airtel followed with 379.97 million, Vodafone Idea with 130.13 million, BSNL with 27.44 million and Atria Convergence Technologies with 2.45 million subscribers.

TRAI data also showed that 14.78 million subscribers submitted requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) during June. Visitor Location Register (VLR) data placed active wireless mobile subscribers at 1,201.06 million.

M2M connections continue to grow

M2M cellular mobile connections increased to 134.73 million in June from 131.11 million in May. Airtel led this segment with 82.77 million connections and a 61.44% market share. Reliance Jio held 19.12%, Vodafone Idea 16.05% and BSNL 3.40%.
