OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is set to meet White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles this week as the U.S. government prepares to finalize a framework for implementing President Donald Trump’s executive order on artificial intelligence.
Altman said he has already reviewed the proposed framework and will meet Wiles during his visit to Washington, D.C. Wiles is one of President Trump’s closest advisers and is playing a key role in shaping the administration’s AI policy.
During his visit, Altman is also scheduled to meet senior administration officials, lawmakers, and economists to discuss OpenAI’s upcoming AI models, cybersecurity, and the United States’ position in the global AI race.
The Trump administration has taken a more active approach to AI regulation since the President signed an executive order in June. The order asked AI companies to voluntarily share their models with the government for capability assessments before full public release, although it did not provide detailed implementation guidelines.
Federal agencies were given 60 days to develop a framework for carrying out those evaluations, with the deadline set for Aug. 1. Altman’s visit comes just ahead of that deadline.
He is not the only technology leader meeting with U.S. lawmakers this week. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is also on Capitol Hill to discuss open AI models and American leadership in artificial intelligence.
Altman also met with Sen. Ted Cruz and several Senate Democrats on Wednesday. Speaking about the discussion, he said, “What it’s going to take for America to remain competitive with AI.”
