Technology, data and intelligence-led policing are set to play a bigger role in Lucknow’s policing strategy as newly appointed Police Commissioner Tarun Gauba outlined his priorities after taking charge. The 2001-batch IPS officer said the commissionerate would focus on technology-driven investigations, data-based crime prevention, faster grievance resolution and scientific policing as crime patterns continue to evolve.
Speaking to reporters at Police Lines, Gauba said priorities would include better traffic management, stronger cybercrime investigations, faster police response, women’s safety and action against misinformation on social media.
“Reducing road accident fatalities would be among the commissionerate’s key priorities. Lucknow Police will work towards developing ‘zero fatality corridors’ and eventually a ‘zero fatality district’ by identifying accident-prone black spots and implementing corrective engineering and enforcement measures,” he said.
He also stressed the need for smoother traffic management to reduce congestion and improve road safety.
Gauba said citizens should not have to visit multiple offices to seek justice or resolve complaints. “Police stations and field officers will be instructed to adopt a sensitive, citizen-friendly and responsive approach while dealing with complainants,” he added.
The commissioner said the police would intensify efforts to dismantle organised cyber fraud networks through advanced technology, specialised investigation teams and digital forensics. Technical infrastructure will also be strengthened to help freeze money lost to cyber fraud quickly and trace offenders at the earliest.
Data analytics will become a key tool in crime prevention and investigation. “The commissionerate will analyse crime hotspots, patterns and criminal behaviour using scientific methods to identify emerging trends and deploy resources more effectively. The objective is to prevent offences before they occur through intelligence-led policing and predictive analysis,” he said.
Police response times will be monitored continuously, with PRV-112 vehicles and patrolling units strategically deployed for faster access across the city.
Women’s safety will remain a priority, with the Mission Shakti initiative to be implemented effectively at the ground level.
Gauba also warned against misinformation and rumours online. “Police will closely monitor anti-social elements to prevent any attempt to disrupt law and order through misinformation or online propaganda,” he said, adding that strict legal action would follow against those spreading misleading content capable of disturbing public order.
