WhatsApp appears to be preparing a visual update for iPhone users with a refreshed chat interface. The Meta-owned messaging platform is reportedly testing a redesigned message bubble style that introduces a softer, more rounded appearance and removes traditional borders around shared media.
According to reports, the updated message bubble design is currently being tested among select beta users through the latest TestFlight build. Some users on the stable App Store version may also be able to see the changes. The redesign was spotted in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.29.10.70.
The new interface gives chat bubbles a more rounded shape compared with the existing design, which features slightly curved corners. The updated style appears closer to the look of iMessage chat bubbles and follows Apple’s Liquid Glass design language.
The redesign also changes how media appears inside conversations. Photos, videos, and GIFs will reportedly no longer be placed inside traditional bordered message bubbles. Instead, shared media will appear without the surrounding borders, creating a cleaner chat experience.
The updated design is still in the testing phase, and WhatsApp has not officially announced when it will be available to all iOS users. However, with beta testing already underway, the feature could roll out more widely in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly working on several other updates. The platform is said to be developing a security feature that could allow users to replace the existing 2-step verification PIN with a password. The app has also reportedly introduced full username support across stable and beta versions of its Android and iOS applications.
