Telangana has taken a major step towards building an AI-powered sustainable manufacturing ecosystem by partnering with Microsoft, the 1M1B Foundation (One Million for One Billion) and MeitY Startup Hub to establish India’s first Green Skills and Applied AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) focused on Green Pharma.
The centre, expected to become operational by August, will equip young people with skills in artificial intelligence, sustainable manufacturing and emerging technologies. The initiative supports Telangana’s vision of becoming a global hub for sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing under its Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy 2026–30.
The roadmap for the Centre of Excellence was presented to Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu. The facility will feature dedicated learning zones for Applied AI, Green Pharma, solar energy, electric vehicles and wind energy. Participants will receive practical experience through industry-led projects, innovation cohorts, internships, mentorship, incubation support and career-readiness programmes.
The Hyderabad facility is one of 5 Green Skills and Applied AI Centres of Excellence being set up across India by Microsoft and the 1M1B Foundation in partnership with MeitY Startup Hub. The national initiative aims to engage 1 lakh youth in Applied AI and Green Skills by 2030, while creating pathways to 50,000 jobs, internships, apprenticeships and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Speaking on the initiative, Babu said, “Telangana’s next phase of growth would depend on a future-ready workforce capable of leading AI-driven transformation and sustainable innovation in life sciences and advanced manufacturing.”
Highlighting the role of AI in sustainable industries, Rajiv Kumar, President and Managing Director, Microsoft India Development Centre, said, “By combining Applied AI with Green Skills, we are preparing a new generation of innovators who can create solutions for both economic growth and climate resilience.”
Manav Subodh, Founder and CEO of 1M1B Foundation, added, “The future of Green Pharma would be built at the intersection of AI, sustainability and human talent.”
The initiative is expected to strengthen Telangana’s position as a leader in AI, green technology and life sciences while preparing a skilled workforce for the next generation of sustainable industries.
