Google has officially rebranded NotebookLM as Gemini Notebook, marking the next stage in the evolution of its AI-powered research and note-taking platform. Along with the new name, the company has introduced cloud computing capabilities and deeper integration with the Gemini app and Google Search to enhance the overall user experience.

Originally introduced as Project Tailwind at Google I/O 2023, the platform has grown into a dedicated research and learning tool. Despite the rebranding, Gemini Notebook will continue to function as a standalone product focused on organising, analysing, and learning from uploaded content.

Google said users can already create and access notebooks directly within the Gemini app, with full synchronisation between the standalone Gemini Notebook platform and the Gemini app. The company also confirmed that support for notebooks will soon be added to AI Mode in Google Search.

As part of the latest update, every notebook will now have access to a secure cloud computer, enabling users to perform complex data analysis directly within their notebooks while keeping all outputs grounded in the uploaded source material.

Initially, this cloud-based computing feature will be available to Google AI Ultra subscribers and Google Workspace business customers with AI Ultra Access and AI Expanded Access. Google also plans to extend the feature to Gemini Pro users on the web over the coming weeks.

According to the company, the secure cloud execution environment will support new output formats for users working with datasets, documents, and other research materials.

Google also shared updated adoption figures for the platform. Since its launch as Project Tailwind in 2023, the platform has grown to more than 30 million users worldwide, with over 600,000 organisations using it for research and productivity tasks.
