In a significant move to strengthen cybercrime response, Odisha Police has launched the e-Zero FIR system to speed up the registration and handling of cyber financial fraud cases. The initiative was launched by Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, IPS, at the State Police Headquarters, reinforcing the department’s focus on citizen-centric and transparent policing.
The State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) has integrated the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930 with Odisha’s Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS). This integration enables the automatic generation of e-Zero FIR requests for eligible cyber financial fraud complaints, regardless of where the offence occurred.
Under the new system, complaints involving fraud of ₹10 lakh or more, reported through Helpline 1930, will automatically generate an e-Zero FIR request and be routed to the Cyber Police Station, Crime Branch, Odisha.
Based on the case details, the Cyber Police can register a regular FIR, transfer the complaint to the appropriate jurisdiction, link it with an existing case, or close it if it does not meet the required criteria.
The new mechanism removes the need for duplicate data entry, speeds up case registration, and improves coordination among law enforcement agencies. It also allows complainants to track the status of their cases more efficiently.
Speaking at the launch, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania said Odisha Police will continue using technology to strengthen cybercrime investigations and ensure timely justice for victims. He also urged citizens to report cyber financial fraud immediately through Helpline 1930 to help authorities prevent further financial losses.
