A new feature spotted in an unreleased version of the Google app suggests that Google could soon give users more control over Gemini Live by adding an option to disable its Guided Vision feature. The setting has not been officially announced and is currently unavailable to users.
The new option was reportedly discovered in Google app version 17.38.5.sa.arm64 for Android. Screenshots of the app’s settings page show a dedicated toggle for Guided Vision in Live, allowing users to enable or disable the feature. However, Google has not revealed how the setting will function once it is rolled out.
The report suggests that disabling the feature may prevent Gemini Live from accessing the smartphone’s camera. When enabled, Guided Vision allows the AI assistant to analyse objects and surroundings in real time through the device’s camera during conversations.
Google introduced Guided Vision, also known as Visual Guidance, alongside the Pixel 10 series last year before expanding it to compatible Android and iOS devices. The feature enables users to point their camera at objects or locations and interact with Gemini Live for real-time assistance.
Guided Vision can help users compare products, receive outfit suggestions, identify the right tools for specific tasks, and get recommendations while sharing their device’s screen. It can also analyse blog posts, social media campaigns, collections of photos, profile pictures, and captions, offering suggestions to improve content.
At present, the Guided Vision toggle remains hidden within an unreleased version of the Google app. Google has not confirmed when the feature will become available, but more details are expected in a future update.
