Instagram explores easier ways to customise feed and Reels recommendations

Instagram is testing new features that could make it easier for users to personalise the content they see across the platform. The latest updates aim to bring the “Your Algorithm” feature closer to the main Instagram experience by offering quicker access to recommendation controls.

According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the company wants “Your Algorithm” to become more than just a settings option. Some of the new features are currently being tested, while others are planned for future releases. He also noted that not every experiment will necessarily become a permanent feature.

One of the test features allows users to access the “Your Algorithm” menu by pulling down on the main feed. Another enables users to swipe up from a Reel to open content customisation options. Instagram is also testing buttons below Reels that let users indicate whether they want to see more or fewer similar videos, making it easier to shape future recommendations.

Instagram first introduced the “Your Algorithm” feature in 2025, allowing users to choose topics they want to see more or less frequently across the app. Since then, the company has gradually expanded the feature to more sections of the platform. The latest tests continue Meta’s efforts to give users greater control over personalised recommendations while improving how content is surfaced.

However, user reactions have been mixed. Many users responding to Mosseri’s announcement said they would prefer Instagram to prioritise posts from accounts they already follow, with several requesting a chronological or follower-focused feed instead of additional recommendation controls.

Meta has not confirmed when these experimental features will be rolled out more broadly, if at all.
