In a move aimed at expanding AI adoption in workplaces, Anthropic has launched a new artificial intelligence agent within Slack that can actively participate in team conversations, assist with tasks, and provide relevant updates across organisations.

The new tool, called Claude Tag, allows users to bring Anthropic’s AI assistant into Slack discussions simply by typing “@Claude” in a thread. Once added, the AI can read conversations, help break down tasks, identify important information, and share useful updates without requiring constant prompts.

Currently available in beta for Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers, the feature is designed to retain context over time, making interactions more relevant and productive. Anthropic also confirmed plans to expand the capability to additional platforms in the coming weeks.

The launch reflects Anthropic’s growing focus on the enterprise AI market, which has become a major area of competition among AI companies. Strong business demand for its AI offerings has helped the company achieve a valuation of $965 billion. Anthropic also confidentially filed for an initial public offering earlier this month.

To address enterprise security concerns, Anthropic said administrators will have full control over the data and tools that Claude Tag can access within individual Slack channels.

Commenting on the development, Slack’s General Manager Rob Seaman said the feature is helping make AI more collaborative by allowing it to participate openly within team discussions instead of functioning through private interactions.

Anthropic’s Head of Product for Claude Code, Cat Wu, explained that while many of the underlying capabilities already existed, integrating them into a format where users can interact with AI like a colleague makes the experience more effective.

As an example, Wu said she has connected Claude Tag to her Gmail account, allowing the AI to monitor important emails and notify her through Slack whenever priority messages arrive. She noted that this helps her respond faster because Slack is her primary communication platform.

The company believes the new feature will improve workplace productivity by making AI a more visible and collaborative part of daily workflows.
