Fresh efforts by the Thai government to curb cybercrime and illegal business activities have led to a significant drop in offences, according to Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
Speaking at a press conference on 22 June, the prime minister said cases linked to cybercrime, scam operations and foreign-owned businesses using Thai citizens as proxies have fallen by around 60% over the past 3 months. The announcement came as authorities presented the results of a nationwide anti-crime campaign.
Anutin said the government had placed cybercrime and nominee businesses on the national agenda because they pose serious risks to both the public and the economy. He warned that some foreign nationals had exploited legal loopholes by using Thai citizens as proxies to establish companies and conduct illegal business activities.
The prime minister praised National Police Chief Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet for supporting the crackdown. He said the success of the campaign against scam networks and cybercrime had earned international recognition and helped restore confidence.
Expressing satisfaction with the efforts of police and other agencies, Anutin said authorities would continue their operations against cybercriminals and illegal businesses.
Addressing concerns over foreign businesses operating through Thai nominees with support from influential individuals, the prime minister said police would take action without prior warning. He added that foreign nationals found violating the law would face deportation and be declared persona non grata.
The government believes the continued enforcement measures will help strengthen economic security and reduce the impact of cyber-related crimes across the country.
