Google’s push into the AI smart glasses market could see strong momentum this year, with a new market intelligence report predicting sales of more than 2 million Android XR-powered smart glasses globally in 2026.
The forecast comes shortly after Google and Samsung showcased their next-generation smart glasses at Google I/O 2026. The companies are planning to launch both audio AI glasses and display-equipped smart glasses, with the first products expected to reach the market later this year.
According to a report by market intelligence firm Smart Analytics Global (SAG), Google could emerge as the world’s second-largest player in the AI smart glasses segment, behind Meta. The report stated that sales could cross 2 million units globally, provided there are no major supply chain disruptions or launch delays. Pricing is also expected to play a key role in market performance.
If achieved, the milestone would mark a major success for the Google-Samsung partnership. Meta took several years to reach similar sales numbers after establishing strong brand recognition and maturing its AI glasses ecosystem.
Google has partnered with eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster for the development of the smart glasses. The report noted that the partnership could help Google reach a wider audience across multiple regions and customer segments.
Warby Parker is known for its strong retail presence and accessibility-focused business across the US and Canada. In comparison, Gentle Monster is recognised as a premium fashion eyewear brand with a growing presence across Asia and major fashion markets in Europe.
According to the report, the combination of both brands could provide strong global visibility for Google’s Android XR ecosystem.
SAG also predicted that global AI smart glasses shipments could grow by 85% year-on-year in 2026 and surpass 15 million units worldwide.
The report added that audio AI smart glasses are likely to remain the most popular category because they are lighter, more affordable, and face fewer privacy and regulatory concerns compared to display-based smart glasses.
The growing competition highlights how major technology companies are increasingly focusing on wearable AI devices as the next phase of consumer technology innovation.
