Government directs stronger action plan to curb cybercrime, says Chief Minister

Emphasising the need for stronger institutional action against digital offences, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed the Director General of Police to intensify measures to control cybercrime and strengthen enforcement systems.

During a review meeting with the DGP and senior police officials, the Chief Minister said the vigilance wing must concentrate on individuals responsible for causing losses to government revenue. He also stated that corruption within the police department will not be tolerated.

The Chief Minister called for technological upgradation of the vigilance department and proposed the introduction of a specialised cybercrime course for police personnel under a skills university. He also stressed that selection for cybercrime wing deployment should begin at the initial stage of police training.

Revanth Reddy further instructed the establishment of special de-addiction centres for victims of drug abuse. He also proposed that personnel from the rank of sub-inspector (SI) to non-cadre IPS officers should serve in different wings for a period of 2 years after promotion. The Chief Secretary and the DGP have been asked to conduct a study and submit a detailed report on this proposal.

“A comprehensive report must be prepared following a study on measures to control cybercrime. There is a need to expand the number of forensic centres and data centres. The selection process for deployment in the cyber crime wing should take place during the initial police training phase itself. Coordination among all departments and senior officials must be significantly enhanced,” Revanth said.

He further added, “The fire department must take proactive measures to prevent fire accidents, rather than merely responding after an incident has occurred.”

The Chief Minister also called for stricter regulation of flex banner installations. “The sense of responsibility within the police must increase. Everyone is a stakeholder in this system, and we will not tolerate anyone acting outside of it,” he warned.
