ASUS targets immersive gaming market with lightweight AR glasses launch

Gaming hardware brand ASUS has introduced the ROG Xreal R1 AR glasses, designed to deliver an immersive gaming experience through high-speed visuals and advanced augmented reality features.

The new AR glasses feature a 240Hz refresh rate along with 1080p resolution on Micro-OLED displays. ASUS says the device can create a virtual screen experience equivalent to a 171-inch display, offering bright visuals, vibrant colours, and ultra-low latency for gaming sessions.

The ROG Xreal R1 is priced at $849, with preorders now open. Shipping is scheduled to begin from June 1, 2026.

Weighing just 91 gm, the glasses are designed for extended gaming use without discomfort. The device also includes electrochromic dimming technology to reduce outside distractions and improve focus during gameplay.

Additional gaming-focused features include instant 2D-to-3D conversion, built-in crosshair overlays, FPS counters, and support for easy connectivity across multiple devices.

With the launch of the ROG Xreal R1, ASUS is expanding its presence in the AR gaming space by combining wearable technology with high-performance gaming features aimed at immersive virtual display experiences.
