Drivers using Android Auto and cars with Google built-in are set to receive a major upgrade as Google introduces a redesigned interface, immersive 3-D maps and advanced Gemini AI integration for connected vehicles.
The update brings a smoother user experience along with new entertainment and navigation capabilities aimed at making in-car interactions more intelligent and personalised.
One of the biggest additions is Gemini Intelligence, Google’s AI assistant designed for vehicles. The system can read messages, check calendars and provide smart recommendations based on user activity. Google also confirmed that users will soon be able to place food orders using voice commands, with DoorDash becoming the first launch partner for the feature.
Navigation tools are also receiving major improvements. The upgraded system includes live-lane guidance powered by the car’s camera system along with traffic light recognition designed to help drivers navigate difficult turns and busy intersections more easily.
Google said the new interface will also support immersive 3-D maps for a more detailed navigation experience inside compatible vehicles.
Entertainment features are expanding as well. Users will gain access to HD video playback while parked, along with Dolby Atmos audio support for enhanced in-car sound quality.
Several major automakers are partnering with Google for the rollout, including BMW, Volvo, Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz.
The company said the new Android Auto and Google built-in features will gradually roll out across compatible vehicles throughout 2026.
The update reflects Google’s broader push to integrate AI-powered assistance more deeply into connected car ecosystems while improving navigation, communication and entertainment experiences for drivers.
