HP scales AI-powered classroom program to improve learning access in Indian schools

HP is expanding its AI-Shala initiative across India after successfully testing the program in 4 schools in Maharashtra. The project, launched in October 2025 in partnership with the state government, aims to bring AI-powered learning labs into classrooms.

The AI-Shala program is designed to help teachers manage large classrooms while offering students more personalised learning experiences through artificial intelligence tools.

According to HP senior vice president Ipshita Dasgupta, the initiative focuses on reducing the gap between students’ growing use of digital content and their limited access to technology that actively supports learning.

AI-Shala is also addressing 2 major challenges faced by government schools — shortage of effective learning devices and increasing workload on teachers.

The company said the program uses smaller language models that allow students to interact directly with AI systems tailored to their learning needs. This approach enables students to study at their own pace and receive more adaptive learning support.

By introducing AI-enabled labs in classrooms, HP aims to improve digital learning accessibility and create more efficient teaching environments across schools in India.

The nationwide expansion reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in education and highlights increasing efforts to modernise classroom learning through technology-driven solutions.
