Google introduces AI-powered Health Coach and redesigned wellness platform in India

Google is expanding its health and wellness ecosystem with the launch of Google Health Coach in India while also rebranding the Fitbit app as the new Google Health app. The update brings fitness, sleep, wellness, and health tracking tools into a single platform powered by Gemini AI models.

The company announced that Google Health Coach will begin rolling out publicly from May 19 and will reach all eligible users by May 26. The feature will be available through Google Health Premium, earlier known as Fitbit Premium, priced at Rs. 99 per month or Rs. 999 per year in India. The subscription will also be included with Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plans.

Alongside the launch, the Fitbit app is being redesigned and renamed as the Google Health app. The updated platform will feature 4 main sections — Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health — along with customisable dashboards for faster access to wellness information. Existing Fitbit and Pixel Watch users will receive the update automatically.

The Today tab will act as the central hub for AI-powered insights generated by Health Coach. Google said the system can analyse fitness activity, sleep patterns, location, weather conditions, and lifestyle habits to deliver personalised recommendations.

The Fitness tab now includes customised workout plans and natural-language workout creation tools. The Sleep section focuses on recovery and sleep consistency tracking, while the Health tab offers simplified summaries of important health metrics.

Google is also upgrading cycle tracking, nutrition tracking, and mental wellness tools. According to the company, Health Coach can analyse how cycle phases or symptoms impact sleep, workouts, and recovery. Users will also be able to log health information through voice input, images, workout details, PDFs, and even gym whiteboards.

The company confirmed that the platform will integrate data from wearable devices, Health Connect, and Apple Health into one system. Google added that Health Coach was developed using Gemini AI models with guidance from medical experts, clinicians, and sports scientists.

Google also stated that users will continue to have full control over their health data, including storage, deletion, and sharing options. Initially, the feature will support eligible Fitbit and Pixel Watch devices, with more devices to be added later.
