A strong display of next-generation medical technologies is capturing global attention, as China highlights its progress in intelligent healthcare at the latest Canton Fair.
At the 139th edition of the Canton Fair, which opened on May 1, the intelligent healthcare zone has emerged as a major attraction. Innovations such as surgical robots, AI-based diagnostics, brain-computer interface rehabilitation devices and capsule gastroscopy systems are drawing interest from international buyers.
Companies like Yuanhua Robotics and Shanghai MicroPort MedBot are showcasing advanced robotic solutions. Yuanhua introduced its HX Orthopaedic-Specific Robotic Arm, designed to assist in orthopedic procedures using AI. The company stated that the system is fully developed with independent components and software, reducing reliance on external technologies.
Its upgraded “five-in-one” Kunwu Robotic Surgical System can now perform 5 procedures, including knee, hip, spine and trauma surgeries, expanding from its earlier 3-procedure capability.
Shanghai MicroPort MedBot presented laparoscopic and vascular intervention robots. The company has deployed around 150 surgical robots globally, supporting 22,000 procedures. These systems reduce operation time by 20% and enable remote surgeries, helping improve healthcare access.
AI-powered diagnostics also attracted attention. A traditional Chinese medicine device can perform pulse, facial and tongue analysis, generating a health report in 30 seconds.
Another key innovation is capsule gastroscopy. Patients can swallow a small capsule with a built-in camera that scans the stomach in about 15 minutes. The process is non-invasive, requires no anesthesia and the capsule is naturally excreted. The failure probability is around 0.0002%, with nearly 30,000 procedures completed globally without incidents. Costs range from 600 yuan ($87.9) to 800 yuan after insurance in some cases.
Medical AI models are also advancing, with one system supporting 19 imaging types and covering 90% of diagnostic scenarios. It is already deployed in over 400 institutions and expanding to markets such as the UK and Brazil.
The intelligent healthcare zone, first introduced at the 138th session, has expanded further this year. These developments highlight a shift toward practical, scalable healthcare solutions.
