Gujarat accelerates GCC ambitions as Bengaluru and Hyderabad retain leadership

As India’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) ecosystem continues to expand, Gujarat is stepping up efforts to attract global enterprises that have traditionally been concentrated in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

India currently hosts over 1,800 GCCs employing more than 2 million professionals, with Bengaluru and Hyderabad leading due to strong talent pools, established infrastructure, and mature ecosystems.

Gujarat is now advancing its position through targeted policies, cost advantages, and infrastructure development aimed at attracting multinational companies.

A key advantage for the state is cost efficiency. Cities like Ahmedabad offer lower real estate costs, reduced attrition rates, and shorter commute times, helping companies improve productivity and optimise operating expenses.

Policy support is also playing a central role. The state is offering capital subsidies, operational incentives, and faster approvals, with proposed investments of around ₹18,000 crore already under its GCC policy.

Infrastructure development is gaining momentum, with new tech ecosystems and commercial projects being built to meet global standards and address earlier limitations.

Despite this progress, Bengaluru and Hyderabad continue to dominate. Bengaluru alone accounts for over 40% of India’s GCC presence, backed by deep talent and a strong innovation ecosystem, while Hyderabad remains a preferred destination for new GCC setups due to its balanced cost and policy environment.

Experts highlight that Gujarat’s long-term success will depend on its ability to build a strong talent base and sustain consistent policy execution. While cost advantages can attract initial investments, ecosystem depth remains critical for scaling operations.

The broader trend indicates a gradual shift, with GCC expansion moving beyond traditional hubs to emerging regions like Gujarat.

At present, Gujarat is not replacing established leaders but is positioning itself as a viable alternative for companies looking to diversify operations and optimise costs.
