Vivo expands budget 5G lineup with battery-focused Y500s smartphone

Strengthening its budget 5G portfolio, Vivo has introduced a new smartphone in China that focuses on battery life, durability, and everyday performance.

The Vivo Y500s comes with a starting price of CNY 1,800 (around Rs. 24,800) for the 8GB + 256GB variant. The 12GB + 256GB and 8GB + 512GB models are priced at CNY 2,200 (around Rs. 30,400). The device is available in Galaxy Silver, Obsidian Black, and Phoenix Gold colour options and has been on sale in China since March 2026 via the official e-store.

Display and performance

The smartphone features a 6.75-inch HD (1570 x 720 pixels) LCD display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, paired with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 613 GPU. The device offers up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. It runs on Android 16-based OriginOS 6.

Camera and features

For photography, the Vivo Y500s is equipped with a 50-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture. On the front, it includes an 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. The phone also supports stereo dual speakers for enhanced audio.

The device includes multiple sensors such as an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and electronic compass. It also features an infrared remote control. For security, it offers a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and facial recognition.

Connectivity and durability

Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The handset also offers IP-rated protection for resistance against water, dust, and shocks.

Battery and design

A major highlight is the 7,200mAh battery, supported by 44W fast charging and reverse charging. The phone measures 166.64 x 78.43 x 8.39mm (8.49mm for the gold variant) and weighs 219g.

The Vivo Y500s follows the design of the earlier Y500i model, bringing incremental upgrades while maintaining its large battery focus.
