In a move that signals deeper expansion into extended reality, Samsung is reportedly working on its first pair of smart glasses, expected to arrive later this year.
According to a report, the upcoming device, currently codenamed “Jinju,” may adopt a design similar to Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses and other existing smart eyewear. The focus is said to be on a lightweight and everyday wearable form factor, making it more practical than bulky headsets.
Design and platform details
The first version of the Galaxy Glasses is not expected to include a built-in display. Instead, Samsung is reportedly planning a more advanced version with a micro-LED display, codenamed “Haean,” which could launch in 2027.
The glasses are expected to run on the Android XR platform, which Samsung is co-developing with Google. This is the same platform used in the previously introduced Galaxy XR headset.
Hardware and features
Leaked specifications suggest the device could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 chipset, paired with a 155mAh battery. The glasses may weigh around 50g. For imaging, they are expected to include a 12-megapixel Sony IMX681 camera. Connectivity options may include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3.
Samsung could also equip the device with directional speakers and is reportedly exploring bone-conduction technology. The glasses may feature photochromic lenses that adjust automatically to lighting conditions.
AI integration and capabilities
A key highlight is expected to be integration with Gemini. This could allow users to perform tasks like translating text, navigating maps, checking weather updates, and interacting with real-time contextual information. Similar capabilities have been seen in competing smart glasses, and Samsung may position its product strongly in this space.
Pricing and positioning
While official pricing is yet to be confirmed, the non-display version is expected to cost around £379 (roughly Rs. 36,000) and $499 (roughly Rs. 47,000). The display-equipped version expected in 2027 could be priced higher.
The Galaxy Glasses are likely to be Samsung’s next major wearable after its smart ring and XR headset, as it competes with devices like the Apple Vision Pro and offerings from XReal.
