India aims to strengthen financial collaboration with African banks to support infrastructure projects

As preparations begin for the upcoming India-Africa Forum Summit, India is pushing for deeper financial collaboration with African nations to strengthen project funding and risk protection.

The Ministry of External Affairs has called for stronger partnerships with major African banks. The aim is to make projects across Africa more secure and better insured, while expanding India’s support and engagement on the continent.

Africa currently requires $155 billion every year to meet its infrastructure needs. However, a significant funding gap continues to challenge development efforts.

India Exim Bank is already playing a key role, supporting 308 projects across 39 African countries. In addition, its Trade Assistance Programme has backed 150 transactions in 25 countries since 2022.

Experts highlight the need for innovative financing solutions to bridge the gap. They stress that collaboration between banks, governments, and businesses will be essential to ensure long-term financial stability and successful project execution.

The push for stronger partnerships comes as India looks to deepen its economic ties with Africa and contribute more effectively to the region’s infrastructure growth.
