Tesla moves closer to autonomous future with Cybercab production rollout

Marking a major step in its autonomous mobility plans, Tesla has started production of its robotaxi, the Cybercab. The update was shared by CEO Elon Musk on April 24 through a post on X, along with a short video showing the driverless vehicle moving from the factory floor onto public roads.

“Cybercab has started production,” Musk wrote, confirming the beginning of manufacturing. The 38-second clip offers a preview of Tesla’s plan for a fully autonomous ride-hailing system. In another post, Musk shared visuals of multiple gold-coloured Cybercabs driving together, indicating plans for large-scale deployment.

Tesla also reported strong financial performance for the March quarter, posting a net profit of $477 million. During its recent earnings announcement, the company said it is on track to begin volume production of both the Cybercab and the Tesla Semi in 2026.

The Cybercab, first unveiled in late 2024, is designed as a fully autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals. Musk had earlier stated that the robotaxi could be commercially available by 2027.

The company has already started limited testing of its robotaxi services. Select users have been offered early access rides in Austin since mid-2025. In February, Tesla also shared an image showing what it described as the first Cybercab unit coming off the production line at its Giga Texas facility.
