Gemini gains smarter responses in India with new Personal Intelligence feature

In a move to enhance AI-driven assistance, Google has introduced its Personal Intelligence feature for Gemini users in India, bringing deeper app integration and more contextual responses.

Originally launched in the US earlier this year, the feature allows Gemini to connect with select apps such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search. Once enabled, the assistant can combine data from these platforms to deliver more detailed and personalised responses.

The feature is optional and remains turned off by default. Users can choose which apps to connect and control their data access settings.

Google explained that Personal Intelligence works by gathering relevant information across apps. For example, while planning a trip to Jaipur, Gemini can pull booking details from Gmail, access saved maps or images from Photos, and suggest places based on recently watched videos on YouTube. All of this information is presented in a single response.

The company stated that the feature is designed to reason across multiple sources and provide accurate answers. It can also cite sources and support follow-up questions for better clarity.

Google clarified that user data is only used to respond to queries and is not directly used to train AI models. Users can disable the feature anytime or use temporary chats without personalisation.

However, the company acknowledged that the feature is still evolving and may sometimes deliver inaccurate or overly personalised responses. There may also be cases where context is misunderstood, but users can correct responses and provide feedback.

The rollout is currently available to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in India, with broader access expected soon. Users can enable it through the Gemini app settings under Personal Intelligence.
