In a major boost to India’s digital infrastructure, Google is set to begin construction of its $15 billion data center hub in Andhra Pradesh on April 28. The project marks the largest single foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country.
The development follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Google and the state government in October last year. The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and senior company executives, including Thomas Kurian.
The data center campuses will be developed near Visakhapatnam across 3 locations: Adavivaram village and Tarluvada village in Visakhapatnam district, and Rambilli in Anakapalli district.
The land for the project has been allocated to Raiden Infotech India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Google. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has allotted 601.4 acres to Adani Infra Limited on behalf of the subsidiary.
The project will involve building 3 data center campuses with a total capacity of 1 GW. These facilities are expected to be operational by July 2028. The infrastructure will include advanced systems such as high-capacity submarine cables, dedicated cable landing stations, and metro fiber connectivity. The project is being executed in partnership with Adani Infra (India) Limited.
With this initiative, Google will expand its global data center presence to 12 countries. The company already operates such facilities in the US, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Belgium, and Chile.
The Visakhapatnam hub is expected to become the largest data center cluster in Asia, significantly strengthening India’s digital ecosystem.
