In a major step toward advancing precision engineering, China has operationalised a first-of-its-kind nanoscale micro-vibration laboratory in Xiong’an New Area, Hebei province.
The facility, independently developed by China Electronics Engineering Design Institute Co., Ltd (CEEDI), is designed to strengthen the control and evaluation of micro-vibration environments at the nanoscale, supporting critical high-end manufacturing sectors.
At the core of the lab is a micro-vibration test bed described as a “national key instrument” and the largest and most precise of its kind globally. Measuring 4m x 4m, the platform weighs around 50 tons and supports a load capacity of up to 20 tons.
This enables testing of large-scale semiconductor equipment and full-size satellite payloads under highly controlled conditions.
The system is built to isolate environmental vibration interference from surrounding structures while also simulating extremely faint vibrations. It can cover the full range of frequencies and amplitudes relevant to industries such as electronics and aerospace.
The test bed’s vibration table supports advanced waveform simulations, including sine waves, random waves, and swept sine waves. These can be tested in a single direction or across 3 directions simultaneously, offering highly flexible and realistic experimental setups.
This capability allows researchers to replicate real-world operating environments with high accuracy, improving the reliability and performance of precision equipment.
The launch of the nanoscale micro-vibration laboratory addresses several critical gaps in China’s capabilities. These include micro-vibration testing methods, vibration tolerance standards for precision systems, evaluation frameworks for vibration isolation devices, and third-party testing services.
The development is expected to play a key role in strengthening China’s independent innovation in advanced manufacturing and next-generation technologies.
