Tensions are rising in the cloud and AI space as Microsoft is reportedly evaluating legal action against Amazon and OpenAI over a $50 billion deal, according to a report by a financial publication.
At the centre of the issue is whether Amazon Web Services can offer OpenAI’s new commercial product, called Frontier, without breaching Microsoft’s existing agreement with the AI company. The current partnership requires that access to OpenAI’s models be routed through Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform.
The reported deal has raised concerns that the terms of this exclusive cloud arrangement may be violated if AWS proceeds with offering the new product independently.
The report could not be immediately verified by a news agency. Microsoft, Amazon, and OpenAI have not yet responded to requests for comment.
