A strong push toward technology-led growth was evident at the Progressive Punjab Investor Summit 2026, where the state government announced a comprehensive set of incentives to attract IT and ITES investments. The initiative is aimed at transforming Mohali into a Tier-1 IT hub while accelerating job creation and digital adoption across industries.
The IT and ITES session saw active participation from investors, reflecting rising confidence in Punjab’s evolving technology ecosystem. During the session, the government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Mohali’s position as a leading IT destination through financial support, infrastructure development, and policy reforms.
Addressing the gathering, Seema Bansal, Vice Chairperson of the Punjab Development Commission (PDC), highlighted the state’s roadmap. She emphasized administrative reforms, partnerships with academic institutions, and the creation of strong infrastructure. She also pointed out that several manufacturing units in Punjab are already integrating AI into their operations, indicating a broader digital transformation.
The expert panel featured Bimal Deep Singh from Infosys, Manipal Dhariwal, CEO of NetSmartz, and Baljit Singh, Chairman of Guru Nanak Dev Global University. They discussed innovation trends, IT and ITES growth opportunities, and the state’s investment potential.
Dhirendra Kumar Tiwari, Additional Chief Secretary (Information Technology), detailed the incentives under the Industrial & Trade Development Policy 2026.
Key financial incentives for IT and ITES units:
- SGST reimbursement of 75% for 10–15 years
- Employment subsidy of ₹5,000 per employee per month for 5 years
- Capital subsidy up to 20%, capped at ₹10 crore
- 100% electricity duty exemption for 10–15 years
Special package for Global Capability Centers:
- First 10 GCCs to receive ₹7,500 per employee per month for 5 years
- Rental subsidy of ₹7 per sq. ft. for IT units and ₹10 per sq. ft. for GCCs for 5 years (minimum 100 seats)
Additional support and regulatory benefits:
- 100% stamp duty exemption for data centers
- Dual power grid facility on demand
- Faster approvals within 5 to 45 working days
- IT park benefits including PAPRA 1995 exemption, flexible setback norms, and unlimited FAR on 45-meter roads
With a mix of financial incentives, policy support, and infrastructure readiness, Punjab is strengthening its position as a preferred destination for IT and ITES investments. The focus on Mohali is expected to drive sustained growth, attract global players, and generate large-scale employment.
