Speculation around Apple’s first foldable smartphone continues to grow as new leaks reveal possible pricing, storage configurations and naming plans. The device, widely referred to in reports as the iPhone Fold, has reportedly surfaced in several online leaks. Interest in the handset has increased after the release of the iPhone 17e, which shifted attention toward Apple’s upcoming high-end devices expected later this year. While Apple has not officially confirmed the foldable phone, multiple reports suggest it could be unveiled in September.
A recent post on Weibo by tipster Instant Digital indicates the foldable iPhone may launch in China with 3 storage variants. The 256GB model could be priced at CNY 15,999 (around Rs. 2,14,400), the 512GB version at CNY 17,999 (around Rs. 2,41,100) and the 1TB variant at CNY 19,999 (around Rs. 2,67,900). Based on current exchange rates, these prices roughly convert to about $2,330 (around Rs. 2,15,200), $2,621 (around Rs. 2,42,100) and $2,913 (around Rs. 2,69,100). However, analysts note that Apple often adjusts prices across regions. For instance, the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro sells for $1,099 (around Rs. 1,01,500) in the US but costs CNY 8,999 (around Rs. 1,20,600) in China despite a lower direct currency conversion.
Based on similar pricing adjustments, estimates suggest the foldable iPhone could start at around $1,999 (roughly Rs. 1,84,700) for the 256GB model. The 512GB and 1TB versions could be priced at approximately $2,199 (around Rs. 2,03,100) and $2,399 (around Rs. 2,21,600). Meanwhile, another Weibo user, Whylab, has suggested that Apple might adopt a different name and launch the device as the iPhone Ultra instead of iPhone Fold. The proposed name would match Apple’s use of the Ultra branding seen in products such as the Apple Watch Ultra and the Ultra variants of its M-series chips.
The same tipster also predicted a lower starting price of slightly above CNY 10,000 (around Rs. 1,34,100), although this estimate differs significantly from other leaks and remains uncertain. Separately, a report from a publication stated that Samsung may supply the 12GB RAM modules for Apple’s foldable phone. This configuration would reportedly align with memory specifications expected in other upcoming Apple devices, including the iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro.
