Andhra Pradesh courts Capgemini for IT development centre in Visakhapatnam

The Andhra Pradesh government is stepping up efforts to attract global technology investments and strengthen its digital ecosystem. As part of this push, the state has invited multinational IT services company Capgemini to consider establishing new technology facilities in Visakhapatnam.

Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh recently met Capgemini Chief Executive Officer Aiman Ezzat in the port city and invited the company to set up an IT development centre along with a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Visakhapatnam. According to an official release, the proposed initiative could create around 20,000 jobs.

During the meeting, the minister encouraged the company to expand its presence in the state by developing advanced technology operations in the region. He also suggested that Capgemini explore the possibility of establishing service centres focused on cloud services and Business Process Management (BPM) operations.

The state government also proposed collaboration with universities across Andhra Pradesh. Under this initiative, Capgemini could partner as a co-development collaborator to set up emerging technology laboratories. These labs would focus on areas such as Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and digital innovation.

The move is expected to strengthen the state’s digital talent pipeline by supporting skill development and promoting technology research through academic partnerships.

In addition, the minister encouraged the company to explore opportunities related to a quantum technology vertical and other next-generation innovation segments.

Capgemini is expected to assess the proposals and evaluate opportunities for potential expansion in the state. The discussions form part of the government’s broader strategy to position Visakhapatnam as an emerging technology and innovation hub supported by strong infrastructure and connectivity.
