Instagram experiences outage as thousands report access issues globally

Instagram faced technical difficulties on Tuesday, leaving users in multiple regions unable to access the platform. The issue appears to have hit the United States hardest, with Downdetector recording around 10,725 reports from the region. India reported 252 incidents, while the United Kingdom logged 135 complaints. Users reported problems accessing the app and its services during the disruption.

The nature of complaints varied across regions. In India, 77 percent of users reported app access issues, 13 percent faced website problems, and 11 percent encountered server connection errors. In the United States, 71 percent reported app difficulties, 19 percent faced server connection issues, and 5 percent noted feed or timeline disruptions. In the United Kingdom, 60 percent of users experienced app issues, 18 percent had feed or timeline problems, and 12 percent faced challenges posting or publishing content.

The company has yet to acknowledge the outage or provide an official statement. Previous service disruptions were reported several months ago, and the platform had been functioning normally in the interim.

In the United States, some of the worst-affected cities include New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington, Dallas, Phoenix, San Diego, and San Francisco. Users in these locations reported widespread difficulties connecting to the app during peak complaint periods.

The disruption highlights the platform’s reliance on stable infrastructure, especially as millions depend on Instagram for social interaction, business, and content sharing. Users are advised to monitor official channels for updates regarding service restoration.
