In a significant push for rural digitisation, Chhattisgarh has been sanctioned Rs 3,942 crore under the Amended BharatNet Programme to strengthen digital infrastructure across the state. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai called the approval a historic step toward rural digital empowerment.
Under the project, 11,682 gram panchayats will be connected through a ring topology-based fibre network. Officials said the upgraded system replaces the earlier linear point-to-point model with a circular design. If one fibre link is disrupted, data will automatically reroute in the opposite direction, ensuring seamless and uninterrupted connectivity.
The initiative aims to improve e-governance services and expand access to online education. It is also expected to support telemedicine in remote regions, improve healthcare delivery, and create new opportunities for rural youth and entrepreneurs.
“Digital connectivity is not just about internet access. It is the new lifeline of a developed Chhattisgarh,” Sai said. He added that stronger digital infrastructure will enhance transparency, speed up service delivery, and integrate villages into the digital economy.
Sai expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia for approving Rs 3,942 crore for the state under the Amended BharatNet Programme. With support from the Centre, he said, Chhattisgarh is moving steadily toward becoming a digitally empowered, secure and self-reliant state.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister OP Choudhary presented the state’s annual budget of Rs 1.72 lakh crore for the financial year 2026–27 in the Assembly. He stated that the budget focuses on inclusive growth, faster infrastructure development and higher investment across key sectors.
