Strengthening international cooperation in artificial intelligence, India and Sweden have signed a Statement of Intent to deepen collaboration in digital technologies and AI innovation. The agreement was formalised between the IndiaAI Mission and Business Sweden on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
The partnership aims to advance cooperation in the development, application and deployment of AI solutions, while also encouraging trade and investment opportunities between both nations.
As part of the agreement, the two countries will jointly establish the Sweden–India Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor (SITAC). The initiative will function as a structured platform connecting government bodies, industry leaders, startups and academic institutions from India and Sweden.
The collaboration is designed to deliver practical industrial and societal outcomes using artificial intelligence while promoting responsible and scalable innovation. It builds on the long-standing relationship between the two countries and reflects shared priorities around economic growth, innovation, sustainability and managing emerging technological risks.
Speaking about the collaboration, IndiaAI Mission Chief Operating Officer Kavita Bhatia said the partnership positions both countries as co-creators of a value-based and trusted AI ecosystem, combining complementary strengths and shared democratic values.
Sweden’s Trade and Invest Commissioner to India, Sofia Högman, said the Statement of Intent converts a shared strategic vision into actionable outcomes. She added that SITAC will strengthen connections between the AI and digital ecosystems of both nations and open new business opportunities.
Under the SITAC framework, several initiatives will be introduced, including conferences, thematic workshops, ecosystem exchange programmes, and field visits to innovation hubs. The programme will also promote engagement among companies, investors, researchers and policymakers, while identifying opportunities for joint innovation platforms, investment corridors and AI deployments across priority sectors.
The partnership aligns IndiaAI Mission’s goal of building a national AI ecosystem through access to compute, data and talent with Sweden’s expertise in industrial innovation, advanced research and responsible AI implementation. The collaboration is expected to support enterprises, startups and research institutions in developing inclusive and scalable AI solutions.
