Marking a step toward smarter governance, IBM has launched its AI GovTech Innovation Center in Lucknow to support the use of artificial intelligence in government operations and public service delivery. The launch event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, and IIT Kanpur Professor Manindra Agrawal.
The new center is designed to explore practical ways AI can improve how government departments function. As part of this effort, IBM signed agreements with the state’s IT Department to identify and develop AI-led solutions across various areas of governance. The focus is on improving efficiency, decision-making, and service outcomes for citizens.
AI education is also a key part of the initiative. IBM has partnered with the School Education Directorate to introduce an AI Literacy program for students and teachers from grades 6–12. The program aims to equip classrooms with future-ready skills by building early understanding of AI concepts and applications.
Alongside the innovation center, IBM announced the launch of a Software Lab at Platinum Mall in Sushant Golf City. The lab will focus on generative AI and agentic AI, supporting the development of advanced automation tools and intelligent assistants.
IBM is also collaborating with IIT Kanpur on an AI-driven air quality monitoring initiative. The project will use artificial intelligence to track and analyse air quality data, a step that could support healthier and more informed urban planning.
Together, these initiatives highlight a broader push to blend AI with governance, education, and environmental monitoring. The efforts are aimed at building stronger digital capabilities while preparing both public institutions and students for an AI-driven future.
