MakeMyTrip integrates OpenAI technology to enhance Myra AI travel assistant

MakeMyTrip announced a collaboration with OpenAI to introduce advanced AI capabilities within Myra, its trip planning assistant. The company said OpenAI’s APIs will be integrated into its app to power new features designed to handle conversational travel queries and deliver structured booking options for flights, hotels, and related services.

According to the company, the upgrade will allow users to interact with Myra through natural conversations and convert travel ideas into actionable booking choices. The move is intended to support high-intent travel queries and assist users who begin planning trips through conversational prompts rather than traditional search methods.

MakeMyTrip said the AI integration will help the platform respond faster to changing travel intent by presenting transaction-ready options. The company described this as a shift from relying mainly on passive search traffic toward a more active, AI-led discovery experience.

OpenAI noted that its technology is helping make travel planning feel like an interactive discussion, where itineraries and recommendations are shaped by travellers’ preferences. The company added that advanced AI can improve customer engagement beyond internal operational use.

MakeMyTrip highlighted that it has invested in AI and machine learning for several years, applying these technologies across the travel journey, from inspiration and search to booking and post-sales support. Myra is powered by proprietary models built on large language architectures combined with travel-intent data.

The company revealed that Myra currently manages over 50,000 conversations every day and supports multiple languages, including Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and English. More than 45 percent of queries originate from Tier-2 and smaller cities, with voice interactions significantly higher in non-metro regions.
