A video from the India AI Impact Summit has sparked controversy around Galgotias University after a robotic dog presented as an in-house innovation was identified online as an existing Chinese product. The clip, which quickly circulated across social media platforms, shows a woman introducing the robot as “Orion” and describing it as a development of the university’s Centre of Excellence.
Internet users were quick to point out that the robot closely resembles the Unitree Go2, a commercially available robo-dog manufactured by Unitree Robotics. The Unitree Go2 is already known globally as a Chinese-made quadruped robot. This led to allegations that the device was being passed off as a proprietary innovation under the name “Orion.”
The issue gained further traction after a social media user, Harsh Kumar (@itsmeharsh_09), posted the video with the caption: “This has been developed by the Centre of excellence at Galgotiyas University. “Also we are the first private university that has invested around 350 crores in Artificial Intelligence”.” The statement about investing 350 crores in Artificial Intelligence added to the scrutiny, with many users questioning the originality of the showcased robot.
The controversy unfolded during the India AI Impact Summit, where institutions and companies were presenting their AI-driven technologies and innovations. The backlash highlights how quickly online communities verify claims, especially in high-profile technology events. As the video continues to circulate, discussions around transparency, innovation claims and academic credibility have intensified on social media.
