Omantel launches Otech to drive digital transformation

In a move aimed at accelerating the country’s digital economy ambitions, a major technology initiative has been introduced to expand innovation, infrastructure and future-ready digital capabilities across sectors.

Omantel has officially launched Otech as its unified technology arm, positioned to deliver future technologies and support large-scale digital transformation. The launch took place on Wednesday, 11 February, alongside the announcement of multiple strategic partnerships expanding Otech’s operational ecosystem.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al-Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority, at the Royal Opera House Muscat, with participation from public and private sector leaders, technology specialists and digital transformation experts.

Mulham bin Bashir Al-Jarf said the launch marks Omantel’s transition from a traditional telecom operator to an integrated digital technology company aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. The strategy focuses on infrastructure modernisation, digital solutions, capability building, new business models and sustainable economic value creation. He emphasised that Omani talent remains central to this transformation, supported by investments in cybersecurity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital solutions.

Aladdin bin Abdullah Baitfadhil described the launch as a qualitative shift supporting innovation, competitiveness and economic diversification. Maqbool bin Salem Al-Wuhaibi highlighted the integration of Oman Data Park into Otech, strengthening data centre capabilities and sovereign cloud services to accelerate digital transformation and data localisation.

Strategic partnerships announced include collaborations with Oracle through Oracle Alloy, PwC for cybersecurity development, Nagarro for systems integration, and alliances with Palo Alto Networks via Unit 42, Fortinet, and Nama Shared Services. Partnerships were also formed with Omani startups Orki, Decoil and Remedy.

As part of strengthening digital sovereignty, Otech launched the Farq Data Centre to provide a secure and scalable environment for mission-critical systems. The company now operates the most diverse cloud ecosystem in Oman and is the first in the Middle East to receive Amazon Web Services accreditation for sovereign cloud services.

Otech aims to localise advanced technologies, build national capabilities and expand Omani technology solutions into regional and global markets.
