IG Defence to invest ₹300 crore in drone manufacturing facility in Odisha

In a significant boost to India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, IG Defence has secured approval to establish a ₹300 crore drone production hub in Odisha’s Ganjam district. The company confirmed the development in an official statement.

The clearance was granted by the 144th State Level Single Window Clearance Authority in New Delhi. The proposed facility will focus on unmanned aerial systems designed for defence applications. It will manufacture mission-specific drone platforms along with related defence technologies.

During the same approval round, Odisha cleared industrial proposals worth ₹4,111.80 crore. IG Defence stated that the new unit will strengthen its national manufacturing network and support future operational requirements.

The company aims to enhance domestic production capacity and support export programmes to partner nations. It plans to leverage Odisha’s existing defence testing and research infrastructure to aid product development and manufacturing.

According to IG Defence, the facility will develop electronic-warfare-enabled unmanned systems and other mission-critical platforms. It will operate alongside key defence institutions in Odisha, including the Defence Research and Development Organisation and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited facilities.

Speaking on the development, Major General RC Padhi, Senior Vice President, IG Defence, said, “The facility is a strategic step towards strengthening indigenous production and ensuring assured, scalable supply of mission-critical systems.”

As an IP-led defence technology company, IG Defence said its platforms have been deployed in field operations, including Operation Sindoor. Several of its systems have been inducted by the Indian Army and the Indian Navy. The company has also signed contracts with Uttar Pradesh for a drone corridor, the Indian Air Force for base safety, AICTE, and Odisha for drone centres of excellence.

The company further stated that it has received orders for more than 5,000 FPV kamikaze striker drones from multiple defence forces. It has also secured patents covering explosive-integrated and precision-strike configurations.

The project is expected to strengthen India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing capabilities while supporting Odisha’s industrial development plans and national self-reliance goals.
