Swiggy brings food, grocery and dining services to AI chat platforms

Ordering food or groceries through a chat interface is about to become a reality for Swiggy users in India. The online food and grocery delivery platform has announced a new move that will allow customers to place orders, book restaurant tables, and track deliveries directly through popular artificial intelligence chatbots.

The company has confirmed the rollout of Model Context Protocol integration across its food delivery service, Instamart grocery delivery, and Dineout restaurant reservation platform. Model Context Protocol, developed by Anthropic, enables AI chatbots to connect with external data systems and carry out actions on behalf of users. With this integration, Swiggy services can be accessed through platforms such as OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and other AI tools.

Swiggy said the integration will allow AI agents to browse and purchase from more than 40,000 SKUs using simple natural language prompts. “India’s convenience needs are deeply contextual, shaped by everyday moments, family routines, personal preferences, and time constraints. By bringing MCP to quick commerce, food delivery, and dining out, we’re removing friction from daily decisions and enabling a level of ease, personalisation, and joy that makes on demand convenience feel effortless,” said Madhusudhan Rao, Chief Technology Officer at Swiggy.

With this update, tasks that earlier required multiple steps within the Swiggy app can now be handled in a single chat prompt. Users can type requests such as “Order ingredients needed for Thai green curry,” or “Order a highly rated biryani I would love,” and the AI will manage the entire process. This includes searching for restaurants or products, comparing options, creating and updating the cart, applying offers or coupons, confirming addresses, placing orders, and tracking deliveries. The AI can also fetch available time slots for restaurants and complete table bookings in one prompt. “It can also retrieve available booking time slots for a specific restaurant and book a table by creating a cart, applying offers, and confirming the booking in a single prompt,” the company stated.
