Uttar Pradesh signs MoU with AM Green for 1 GW AI data centre in Greater Noida

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AM Green Group to set up a 1 GW data centre focused on serving global Artificial Intelligence workloads.

The MoU was signed with InvestUP, Government of Uttar Pradesh, at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Under the agreement, AM Green will develop a large-scale AI infrastructure hub in the Greater Noida region. The project will be implemented in phases, with the first capacity expected to become operational in 2028. The full 1 GW capacity is targeted by 2030, with a total investment of around $25 billion.

The partnership reflects AM Green’s focus on building a sustainable and carbon-neutral digital economy and aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s goal of becoming a leading data centre hub in India.

The project will involve a multi-billion-dollar investment to build a GW-scale data centre supported by around 500,000 high-performance chipsets. It is among the largest investments in the country and supports the Indian government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision to expand AI-driven services.

The facility will be powered by 24/7 carbon-free energy, using a mix of wind, solar, and pumped storage, leveraging AM Green’s renewable energy capabilities.

With rising demand for high-performance computing and AI workloads, the data centre will be designed to support global hyperscalers, frontier labs, enterprises, and India’s sovereign AI initiatives at scale, using carbon-free energy.

AMG AI Labs is working on building a full-stack AI ecosystem, covering energy, infrastructure, hardware installation, customised models, and applications. The ecosystem will support multiple sectors, including energy, healthcare, sovereign cloud services, manufacturing, automotive, media, and gaming.

The HPC capability will also provide wider access to advanced chipsets for the Indian developer community, helping accelerate AI solution development for domestic and global use.

The project will benefit from Uttar Pradesh’s industrial corridors and data centre policy to deliver low-latency and reliable connectivity. It is expected to attract significant foreign direct investment and create thousands of high-skilled jobs, supporting local ecosystems in hardware, software, and specialised cooling technologies.

“Today AI has become embedded in our daily lives – evolution of global AI ecosystem with intentionality, intelligence and adaptability will be a pivotal tool for current & future generations. Our entry into the AI full stack ecosystem is a natural extension of our technology first approach to our businesses and deliver integrated end-to-end solution stack for a multitude of industries.” said Anil Chalamalasetty, Group Chairman of AM Green Group.

AM Green President Mahesh Kolli added, “By combining 1 GW of compute capacity with our 24/7 green power solutions, we are not just building a data center; we are creating a sustainable template for the future of global AI infrastructure with the support from State of Uttar Pradesh.”
