OpenAI offers one month of ChatGPT Plus for free to users

OpenAI has launched a limited time promotion that gives users a free one month trial of its ChatGPT Plus subscription. The offer is currently available in India and the United States, and it is expected to roll out in more countries soon. For Indian users, this marks the second major promotional move by the company, following the free one year access to ChatGPT Go announced in November 2025. This is also the first time OpenAI has made its main subscription plan available for free, even if only for a short period.

The offer was first highlighted by a tech professional on social media. It was later verified by a technology publication in India, while a global news outlet confirmed its availability in the United States. The free trial is open to both existing users and those who have never subscribed before. Even users with an active ChatGPT Go plan can upgrade to Plus. However, Indian users who are on the free one year Go plan will not be able to return to it after the 30 day Plus trial ends.

To activate the free trial, users must enter their payment details, such as credit card, net banking, or UPI information. If the subscription is not cancelled before the trial period ends, the system will automatically charge users for the next month.

ChatGPT Plus normally costs Rs. 1999 per month. The plan offers priority access, higher usage limits for the latest AI models, Sora powered video generation, expanded memory for better context retention, and access to Codex for coding support.

This move is seen as OpenAI’s attempt to attract more users to its premium service by letting them experience its advanced features without upfront cost.
