YouTube refreshes search filters with new Shorts option and simpler sorting

YouTube has rolled out changes to its search filters to make content discovery easier and more user friendly. The update is based on user feedback and focuses on clearer sorting tools and simpler filter options. The platform says these changes will help users find the videos they want faster and with less effort.

One of the key updates is the addition of a new Shorts filter under the Type category. This allows users to choose whether they want to see Shorts or long form videos in their search results. Earlier, both formats appeared together, which often made it difficult to locate longer content.

YouTube has also renamed the Sort By menu to Prioritise. The company says this label better explains how results are arranged. The View count option has been renamed to Popularity. This filter now ranks videos using multiple signals, including view count, watch time, and relevance to the search.

Some filters have been removed as well. The Upload Date Last Hour option and the Sort by Rating feature are no longer available. YouTube said these tools did not work as intended and caused confusion. Users can still sort by recent uploads using options such as Today, This week, This month, and This year.

The filter layout has been reorganised for better clarity. Under Type, users will now see Videos, Shorts, Channels, Playlists, and Movies. The Duration filter now includes Under 3 minutes, 3 to 20 minutes, and over 20 minutes. Other filters like Live, HD, and 4K remain unchanged.

The update is being rolled out gradually across the website and mobile apps. YouTube says the aim is to deliver a smoother and more intuitive search experience.
