IBM commits to large scale AI and quantum skill development in India

A major global technology company has announced a long term plan to strengthen digital skills across India with a strong focus on future technologies.

IBM said it will train 50 lakh people in India in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and quantum computing by 2030. The programme will be delivered through the company’s SkillsBuild learning platform and is designed to improve access to digital skills and boost employability for both students and adult learners nationwide.

As part of the initiative, IBM will collaborate with institutions such as the All India Council for Technical Education. The partnerships will support hands on AI learning pathways, faculty training programmes, curriculum integration, hackathons and internship opportunities.

“India possesses the talent and ambition to lead the world in AI & Quantum,” said Arvind Krishna, chairman, president and chief executive officer at IBM. “Our commitment to skill five million people is an investment in that future.”

The company will also continue its efforts at the school level. IBM plans to co develop an AI curriculum for senior secondary students. This will include learning resources such as the AI Project Cookbook, Teacher Handbook and explainer modules. The focus will be on computational thinking, responsible AI and enabling teachers to deliver AI education at scale.

IBM stated that its SkillsBuild platform has already reached more than 1.6 crore learners worldwide. The company aims to train 3 crore people globally by 2030, with India expected to play a key role in achieving this target.

The announcement highlights IBM’s continued emphasis on building future ready talent and supporting India’s growing role in advanced digital technologies.
