STMicroelectronics emerges as a key chip supplier powering Starlink’s global rollout

A major European chipmaker has quietly played a key role in building the hardware backbone of the Starlink satellite network over the past decade.

STMicroelectronics has shipped more than 5B radio frequency antenna chips to SpaceX, the space company led by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, for use in Starlink satellites and user terminals. The scale of deliveries highlights the depth of the long running partnership between the semiconductor firm and SpaceX as the satellite internet project continues to expand worldwide.

According to a report by a global news agency, a senior executive at STMicroelectronics said shipments under the existing partnership could rise sharply in the near future. Chips scheduled to be delivered over the next 2 years could potentially double the total number supplied so far, pointing to continued strong demand from the Starlink programme.

The growing volume of chip shipments reflects Starlink’s rapid expansion and the increasing need for advanced communication hardware. For STMicroelectronics, the deal represents one of its most significant long-term supply relationships in the space and satellite communications sector, reinforcing its position as a key supplier of radio frequency technology for large scale satellite networks.
