Facebook rolls out redesigned feed, search and navigation with new discovery features

Facebook has announced a major update to its app that introduces redesigned feed, search, and navigation interfaces, along with a new discovery algorithm. The refreshed design aims to make the platform easier to use and more immersive.

According to the company, the feed has been redesigned to offer a cleaner and more engaging look. Users will soon be able to double tap to like photos in the feed and open posts in full screen by tapping on them. When users upload multiple photos, these images will now appear in a grid layout for better viewing.

Facebook is also updating its navigation bar. Sections such as Home, Reels, Friends, Marketplace, Notifications, and Profile will now appear in one bar at the bottom of the screen, in a layout similar to a recent change introduced on another Meta owned platform. The menu and notifications tab have also been refreshed, allowing users easy access to Meta AI tools, different sections, and friends’ Stories.

Search results on Facebook will now be displayed in a grid layout. The social media platform is testing a new full screen viewer that will show photo and video results. It plans to expand this feature to more content types in the coming months.

The new discovery algorithm will help users find friends with similar interests. Facebook says that recommendations will be based on shared preferences such as favourite shows, music choices, places of interest, or hobbies. If a user updates their interests, such as adding sourdough bread baking or noting that they are visiting a new city, the platform will suggest friends with similar interests. Users will be able to choose which interests are shown on their profile.

Facebook is also updating its content creation tools. Popular features such as adding music and tagging friends will be moved to a simpler and more intuitive location.
