Character AI, the artificial intelligence powered social app, has introduced a new feature called Stories. The format allows users to step into fictional narratives and interact with their favourite characters by choosing a premise and genre. The company said Stories is designed to offer an AI driven storytelling experience where users make frequent choices that shape the plot. It is also the first format created specifically for users under the age of eighteen.
In a blog post, the California based AI startup explained the idea behind the feature. Character AI is a platform where users can create fictional or real life inspired AI avatars and interact with them directly or through various role play formats. Most of the existing experiences are text based role playing games where users type inputs, and the AI responds by building scenarios or continuing the story.
Stories expands this approach. Character AI describes it as a structured, visual and multi path storytelling format that keeps the pace of the narrative while allowing users to influence the direction. Users begin by selecting two or three pre created characters and writing a short premise. They also choose a genre before the story begins.
The AI then generates a detailed storyline in which users must make regular choices, with each decision influencing how the plot unfolds. The company noted that Stories can be replayed so users can explore different branches and endings. Once a story is complete, it can be shared with other users on the platform.
The company also emphasised that Stories has been built with all required safety measures to ensure a secure experience for users under eighteen. It is the first format created specifically for minors. The company said, “Stories represent an important step in our long term strategy to build the future of AI entertainment and evolve the platform through multimodal, AI driven experiences.”
