Microsoft to remove Copilot access from WhatsApp from January 2026

Microsoft has announced that its AI assistant Copilot will no longer be available on the instant messaging app WhatsApp from 15 January 2026. This will end an integration that allowed users to chat with Copilot directly through the app.

In an official blog post, the company said, “Since launching in late 2024, Copilot on WhatsApp has helped millions of people connect with their AI companion in a familiar, everyday setting. We are incredibly proud of the impact it has had. But starting January 15, 2026, Copilot will no longer be available on WhatsApp.”

Microsoft stated that this decision follows changes made to WhatsApp platform policies. The company said, “This is due to recent updates to WhatsApp’s platform policies removing all LLM chatbots from the platform effective January 15th, and as a result, Copilot will be discontinued. We are working to ensure a smooth transition for users and enable their continued Copilot access on mobile, web, and PC.”

Users will be able to access Copilot on WhatsApp until 15 January 2026. After that date, the service will no longer function within the messaging app. However, users can continue to chat with Copilot through other platforms. These include the Copilot mobile app on iOS and Android, Copilot on the web at copilot.com, and Copilot on Windows.

Microsoft has confirmed that chat history from WhatsApp will not be saved when users move to its other platforms. This is because Copilot access on WhatsApp was unauthenticated. The company has advised users to save their conversations manually. It said, “If you would like to keep a record of your conversations, we recommend exporting your chat history using WhatsApp’s built in tools prior to January 15, 2026.”
