Arctus Aerospace has raised 2.6 million dollars in pre seed funding. The investment comes from Version One Ventures, South Park Commons, gradCapital, Balaji Srinivasan, Srinivas Narayan from OpenAI B2B Applications, and leaders from Ather, Bounce Infinity and Boom Supersonic.
The company is now part of a small global group that is building large unmanned aircraft that can fly at forty five thousand feet for twenty four hours. This capability was earlier limited to defence projects and satellite systems worth billions of dollars.
Founder and chief executive Shreepoorna S Rao said that the company’s mission is to remove all ground infrastructure needed to monitor or understand the planet at centimetre resolution. He said that once this is achieved, it will end satellite based commercial earth observation. The investors agree with this vision. Boris Wertz of Version One Ventures said that Arctus is redefining how high value sensing is delivered. Aditya Agarwal of South Park Commons said that the team shows the audacity, creativity and will needed to make a dent in the universe.
Arctus is making high altitude intelligence far more affordable. The company says it can deliver this at about one hundred dollars an hour. This brings down imagery costs from about ten thousand dollars to around five hundred dollars for five hundred square kilometres. The company’s aircraft already fly above ten thousand feet with centimetre level accuracy. Arctus operates from a twenty five thousand square foot facility in Bangalore. From this base, the company aims to build a new class of zero infrastructure earth intelligence.
