A Bengaluru tech professional has drawn wide attention after sharing AI generated PAN and Aadhaar cards that look extremely real. He used Google Gemini Nano Banana to create fake identity cards that appear genuine at first glance.
The man, identified as Harveen Singh Chadha, posted AI generated versions of the documents and jokingly used the name Twitterpreet Singh. Chadha also warned that although Nano Banana is a powerful tool, it can also create risks. He wrote on X, “Nano Banana is good but that is also a problem. It can create fake identity cards with extremely high precision. The legacy image verification systems are doomed to fail.”
How did he differentiate
He shared two pictures of the PAN and Aadhaar cards. They look real at first sight. A closer look shows they are fake. Both images have a small Gemini AI watermark that shows they were created by AI.
How did the internet react
The post went viral and many people warned that this technology could be used for fraud.
One user said, “It is a real issue thats why many countries have stopped accepting photocopies and identity proof have QR code which can only be authenticated by Gov apps.” Another said, “That’s the exact danger of this model. Lot of fake IDs card will flood the market.”
The next person wrote, “This is going to be a serious security threat. But this is a damage, that happens with any technological shift.”
Some users said there is no reason to worry since the cards have errors that make it clear they are not real. One person said, “But the number will not be matched and a QR like unique pattern and if that system is not able to identify it then what type of garbage system is that.”
SynthID is a technology created by Google that adds an invisible watermark to AI generated images. The watermark cannot be seen by the human eye so the image still looks normal.
However, this invisible SynthID watermark may not be enough if people do not use the official Gemini app to verify documents.
Earlier this week, Google launched Nano Banana Pro, its next generation AI image generation and editing tool. It is built on the powerful Gemini three Pro architecture. The new model is more advanced than the previous version and can now create infographics and diagrams.
